UNITED KINGDOM TURKISH HIPHOP MOVEMENT
"The UKTHM has been backing artists since 2002 with great success after a millennium award by The Princes Trust".
What we do
The UKTHM help deserving bands and artists get recognition. We like to keep community spirits high by using music as a means of helping young kids get off the streets and into a much healthier and prosperous future. We offer consultation sessions and back only creative and artistic artists. We are not a record label and our projects are independently funded. We offer industry advice and put talent on the right track to get them in the lime light. We offer a limited amount of services and advice all artists to make create exposure independently. We make artists work for themselves and only show them the options to chose from and guide them to the appropriate path. We believe and act on the ethics of do it yourself music and keep artists decisions independent to themselves. We can help get you going.
The Philosophy behind the movement
The UKTHM is the UK's first independent hip-hop foundation that specialises in promoting unsigned Turkish artists from the UK. The UKTHM is formed by MC’s & Producers acting on the ethics of promoting hip-hop the Old Skool way, Less internet more physical presence in the streets. Set up in response to Istanbul’s Unkapini, this Foundation makes independency a key ingredient of the movement.
UKTHM’s mission is to find those with raw talent and passion and give them support and guidance to break through and influence the ears of music lovers everywhere. By associating themselves with the UKTHM, MC’s, DJ’s, Graf artists, b-boys/girls and producers will become part of the ever-increasing network of music professionals already associated with the foundation. They will also be helping the industry to get one step closer to removing the constraints of the pop mould.
The UKTHM is still the only organisation promoting Turkish based hip-hop artists within the UK. Established in 2002 the original group of 4 have signed there names in Hip-hop History as being the initiative taskforce behind the UK hip-hop scene within the 50,000 Turkish speaking community in the UK.
The UK's first Turkish hip-hop foundation, is the brainchild of Yilmaz Korkmaz “AK 09” and is the UK's first independent foundation that provides services to the Turkish speaking community in London, with a mission to foster raw Turkish talent within the music industry, without the catering of major record labels. Princes Trust award winners UKTHM have been awarded funds to support the ‘Big City Cyphers' project which has helped the London based organisation recruit hip-hop culture in deprived Turkish communities in London. The UKTHM use hip-hop and the art of RAP (Rhythm and Poetry) to deliver a positive message to up and coming talent within the UK.
The UKTHM’s album releases, events and marketing methods has made them the most original and talked-about hip-hop movement in the history of Turkish Urban music within Western Europe.
